What have I been up too?

Hi everyone.  I’m finally getting back into my blog.  I have not been posting for a while as we  moved house again in November (I do hope this is the last move for a long time).  It been a very big and busy last year with two moves, I’ve started working part time and we’ve got a puppy dog, named Charlie.  I have not been neglecting to craft, just neglecting to post here on my blog.  I’ve been posting on instagram.  You can find me under “my_place_to_create” – I’d love it if you would like to follow me.  I’ve also been posting a lot to facebook groups and practising my colouring.

I thought I’d just pop in a few of my recent 5 by 7 projects that I’ve been doing.  I love the work of “Art by Barb Designs” and was thrilled when she asked if she could use some of my work for her shop and if I could colour some images for her… here is the work I’ve done.IMG_7162 IMG_7156 IMG_7235 IMG_7198

I do the monthly colouring classes over at Kit and Clowder and we learn some fabulous techniques for colouring backgrounds, people, objects etc..  I just LOVE these classes and can’t recommend them enough!!  If you want to improve your colouring, give these classes a try.  Anyway, here are some of the projects from these classes.IMG_6934 IMG_6929 IMG_6977 IMG_7716 IMG_7122 IMG_7730 IMG_7713 IMG_7700

Now, here are some other works I’ve done recently as well…IMG_7747 IMG_7155 IMG_7149IMG_7774So, as you can see, I’ve been busy crafting away and now that  things have settled down – we’ve unpacked and settled into our new home, the kids are back at school, I’m getting into my work routine, so I’ll try and post a little more often…

Thanks for stopping by :)

Have an otterly Great day…

otter2Hello, and Happy New Year to everyone.  Yes, I know it’s a bit late, already February, but this is my first post for the year.  Yay.  I must get back to posting and entering a few more challenges…

Anyway, this challenge from Freshly Made Sketches caught my eye.otter FMS Final 273-001I just received my adorable “Otterly Love you” stamp set from My Favorite Things and couldn’t wait to use it.  I decided to die cut the wave that comes with the matching die set 3 times.DSC01685This card piece measured 4 by 5 1/4 inches.  I used my ruler and t-square ruler to draw up the lines, so I’d not only get them straight, but also evenly spaced.

I then stamped my otters on a separate piece of card and coloured them with copics. For the otters I used: E55, E53, E51 and E50, for the rocks I used W7, W5, W3 and E11 (for a touch of peach), for the water I used BG01, BG10, BG0000 and YG00 and for the reflection of the otters and rock, E51 and W3.DSC01686I then used my die cut machine to cut out the otters and rock and I slid them into the waves I’d cut. I used good old sticky/stello tape to stick them to the back of my card. And added a cute little fish from the set.otter1I like clean and simple cards, so to finish it off, all I did was use my BG01 to colour in the border around my card.  I use the thick/chisel end of my copic sketch and use a ruler to help me keep on the right track.DSC01689The other thing you may notice is that in the set, the sentiment says “Have an otterly great birthday”, well, I did not want this to be a birthday card, just a card for any day, so I cut down the “birthday” and lined the sentiment up in my MISTI to stamp it out so it just says “day”.

More Adorable Elephants

FMS249_2I love these little elephants from My Favorite Things – they’re called Adorable Elephants – very appropriate!!  I coloured up about 60 or so of them with copic markers and cut them all out by hand.  I just couldn’t help myself!!  I’ve used a circle and grass die from MFT and used a cloud die to create a mask to give a hint of clouds behind the elephant.  I loved the little butterflies that come with the stamp set and thought I’d colour them in so they went along with the same colours as the rainbow strip…FMS249_3I thought I’d join in the challenge over at All sorts challenge, which is butterflies and Sweet Stampin challenge blog, which is to use your favourite stamp.  At the moment this is by far my favourite stamp!!

Hope you like the card, thanks for stopping by :)

Adorable Elephants

FMS249_1I have been after this stamp set (“Adorable Elephants” by My Favorite things) for a couple of months as I love these little elephants.  Once I got it, I stamped a lot of elephants, coloured them in with copics and cut them all out by hand!!  Yes, I’m crazy, but I was filling in time while at my daughters gymnastics class and while watching the olympics.FMS249_3So, I have no idea what to do with them all yet, but I’m joining in the challenge over at Ellibelle’s Creative Moments with a “lets colour challenge” and  Freshly Made Sketches with this great sketch.FMS Final 249-001The little polaroid die cut is from Mama Elephant Polaroid Fun.  I used distress inks to colour the strips of blue and pink paper and white heat embossed the sentiment.   I can’t wait to keep creating with all these cute little elephants.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Penguins in Paradise – MFT

As I mentioned in my previous post, I haven’t entered any challenges for a while.  I must have been extra inspired by the sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches, as now I’ve made quite a few cards and entered this challenge twice (I hope that’s ok).FMS Final 248-001Once again, I turned the card on it’s side.  I used masking to give that little taste of the beach and water.  The stamps are all from the My Favorite Things “BB Penguins in Paradise” set. I colored the images in copic markers and fussy cut them out.  I love this stamp set, it is so much fun.  Can’t wait to get it out again and play…

Lunar Animals – Mama Elephant

It’s been a long time since I’ve entered any challenges on my blog.  A move to the other side of the world can do that to you!!  I couldn’t resist joining in the challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  As soon as I saw this sketch I thought of these cute critters from Mama Elephants “Lunar Animals” set.  I’ve just turned the card on it’s side :)FMS Final 248-001

I stamped a bunch of these little animals, colored them all up with copic markers and used the die cuts to cut them out.  The “Thanks” die cut came from a stampin’ up set.  I made a few of these cards as I always seem to run out of thank you cards!!FMS248_4FMS248_3

They also have a gorgeous little puppy dog in this set, but my 8 year old daughter stole them both after I’d coloured them to make a card for her friends 9th Birthday.  The little balloons are actually a die cut speech bubble from a mama elephant set, which was just the perfect size for these little puppies.  Here is her card – so adorable:

Missing in action

Well, it’s been a crazy year.  At the end of last year, we were given 5 weeks notice to move from Houston back to Australia.  It always takes a while to settle in to a new place, find a new house, get all your “stuff” back, find a school for the kids, get the kids settled, husband settled, get me settled etc.  I’ve started a new job a couple of days a week with my old accounting firm.  I have not done a lot of card making, but I have been doing a lot of colouring.   I’ve been taking classes over at Kit and Clowder.  I’ve been doing the pencil classes and I use prisma pencils.  I have also been doing the copic marker classes.  I have been learning so much and having a wonderful time coloring, so I thought I’d share some images with you!!  Some of these pictures are 5 by 7 inches, so a bit big for a card and I have to try and work out what to do with them now they are done.  Some of the images could go onto a card, but I haven’t done anything with them yet…  Just lots of practicing…

Top image is by line artsy – you can find the digi stamp on etsy.  This one is also line Artsy and both were coloured with copic markers.IMG_6848

The next couple are Tiddily Ink images – I would have loved to enter the DT call, but I need to start blogging again and get back to making cards…IMG_6821 IMG_6823

Here are some saturated canary images.  The top two images are colored with copic markers and the third image is colored with pencil:IMG_6825 IMG_6764 IMG_6742

This one is from paper shelter – the image is printed and the background is drawn in, as with the images above.  Coloured with pencil…IMG_6746

These ones are Ching-Chou Kuik on etsy.  Both done with pencil…IMG_6837 IMG_6841

This one is an underwater monochromatic scene – image from TheOctopodeFactory over on etsy – this is colored with pencil:

And lastly from me, another pencil coloring, a beautiful image by Janna Fairy ArtIMG_6722

Even Jorja has been getting in on the action and wanting to learn how to colour.  She’s doing such a good job!!

IMG_6830Some of the images are colored with prisma pencils and some are done with copic markers.  I’ve been doing classes on both medium… So much fun!!

Hopefully I can post a little more of my coloring and maybe get to making some cards again soon…

Thanks for stopping by :)

Inktense and Gelato backgrounds

occwater3-2Day 3 of the Watercolor mediums online card class was about using pencils, crayons and other mediums. I thought it would be fun to see if I could create a background with inktense pencils and a stamp.  I used this triangle background stamp and colored it in with a rainbow of inktense pencils, then spritzed it with water and stamped it on the card. I really loved how this background turned out.  The colors merged beautifully.  occwater3-1For the next card I tried Gelatos. I tried to create a background like Shari Carroll, but it turned out a hot mess, so I used a stencil and colored with the gelatos and spritzed it, rubbed it with my fingers and I preferred this :)  I was using a cold press watercolor paper, so it has tooth and you can see the grain of the paper. I think this method might be better with smoother hot press paper, but I guess it depends on your preference…

The elephant and rabbit is from a Mama Elephant stamp set called “Ella and Friends”.  I colored this in with zig markers and water.  The little elephant is adorable!!occwater3-4occwater3-3I hope you enjoyed the class as much as I did.  If you haven’t done it, I highly recommend it!!

No line watercolouring

occwater2-6I’ve been doing the Online Card Class for watercolor mediums.  This was trying the no line coloring technique from Day 2.  This was a challenge to get the contrast going, especially with such small spaces…  I used the Monster Hugs stamp set from Simon Says stamp.  I used the Sakura Koi watercolors. I love how they are pretty bright.  I also colored the hearts and letters with some wink of stella marker for sparkle and also dotted some wink of stella in the background.occwater2-7So, I have to show you my first attempt at the no line coloring.  I used distress markers for this, but I should have stayed with browns for the bears – I just wasn’t happy with the colors or the coloring, but I will just have to practice, practice, practice…  This stamp set was Mama Elephants Bear Hugs.  I also learnt that there was not much difference between ripe persimmon and mustard seed distress inks in the tiny area on the honey pot…  All good lessons :)occwater2-8Thanks for stopping by :)

Watercolour background

occwater2-3So, I’m on day 2 of the watercolor Online Card Class and just loving it.  Had so much fun doing some watercolor backgrounds today.  I finished them off with these cute monsters from Simon Says Stamp “Monster Hugs” and “Blocked Greetings”occwater2-2These monster are just too cute..occwater2-1

I didn’t have much black card stock and these cards really needed a black background to pop, so I totally faked it with a nice thick copic marker on my white card stock.

occwater2-4Thanks for stopping by. Can’t wait to do some more playing tomorrow :)
