Hot and Cold

FS78_1So, we had a little bit of snow here in Houston today (well, we think it snowed for a few minutes, but we also had lots of ice)…  School was closed for the day, so we had a mostly indoor day.  I got to create some cards.  I colored this last week and thought it would be great for this sketch from Feeling Sketchy

I put in a sand, surf and blue sky background.  I put some glossy accents on the rubber ring to give it a bit of a rubber look.  I also put some wink of stella, glossy accents and white uniball gel pen in the water to give it a bit of texture.

So, from the sunny shores of this card, to the cool Houston weather….  There was a lot of ice on the trampoline, so Xavier jumped on it to break it all up!!  Jorja then decided to create her own snow while jumping on the trampoline.IMG_5110IMG_5144 IMG_5145

Xavier was having fun knocking off all the icicles on the fort and anywhere else in the yard!!    Jorja decided to go down the snow and ice covered slide and see how fast she could go.  I don’t think she went much faster but she got a nice wet backside!!  It was fun watching them create their own magical snow day!!

Retro Sketches 99

retro99I have been having fun with my copic markers lately.  I have been doing an online background course, so I am trying to do something with the background of my pictures, not just focus on the image itself.  I loved this little Magnolia image.  I thought it would go perfectly with the retro sketches 99 challenge.  And the light blue paper is fishes!!

I made a few cards today, but it looks like i missed the cutoff for this one ( Sweet sketch wednesday 2) by an hour or so, ooopps….  So, I’ll add it into this post and you can check it out if you like…SS2_1SS2_2

I added wink of stella glitter pen to the mailbox.  I added glossy accents to the mailbox lever, the flowers and butterflies just to give the picture a bit more dimension!!  This was the sketch.  Maybe you would like to check out next weeks sketch!!  Thanks for looking…SSW2 04

Hearts and Hugs

stencils4_1For this card I masked off a heart, inked the heart lightly, then put down the circles template and inked over the top (this was from one of the stencil classes, but can’t remember which day).  I then covered a couple of the circles with wink of stella and covered all the circles with glossy accents.  I really like how this turned out.stencils4_2

stencil4_1I used a couple of techniques from my stencil classes.  I made my own heart stencil, then used a lined stencil over the top of that.  I used versa mark and embossed the lines with clear embossing powder.  I then inked over it…  I inked the “Hello” die cut in the same colors, covered it with wink of stella glitter pen then some glossy accents.  Love how sparkly it turned out. stencil4_2

Something “NEW”

stencils3_1I am taking part in the stenciled online card class and since this is something new to me and I am trying things out for the first time I thought I’d enter the Addicted to CAS challenge which has a code word of “NEW”.  Stencil logoI haven’t really used stencils in my card making a lot.  I loved the technique of using the Wendy Vecchi embossing paste with my stencils.  I got this as a christmas present and I haven’t used this before, so it was great to see some techniques in this class.  I colored the white paste with a few drops of copic marker (BG10) to get the light blue/green color on my card.  I love the texture and dimension this gives to the card.

stencils3_2I kept the card pretty simple by adding a couple of butterflies which were cut and embossed with a sizzlets die and I added a little color to them with distress inks.  stencils3_4I really like how this card turned out.  I love how it’s a pretty clean card, but has so much texture!!

Thanks for checking it out…

More Stencils Day 2

stencils5_7Loved the cards Kristina Werner made… Loved how they were so colorful, had a beautiful sentiment and were quick to make.  I made my own heart and stars template with some SSS dies.IMG_5027

Then, colored in different shapes of the stencil with different colors.  I thought the more masculine card could be for my hubby for valentines day, or maybe his 40th birthday!!  This would probably be really nice technique to try with copic markers too by adding a bit of dimension to the shapes with shading.  Might attempt that another day though!!stencils2_6 stencils2_5

Ok, now I’d better get back to the washing and get out and do some exercise!!  Thanks for stopping by…

letting go…

stencils2_1Stencil logo

The stenciled class is great.  I am probably too much of a perfectionist. I like everything to be just right when I make my cards, so I like how Laura Bassen was saying to just let it go… It’s just a card, have fun with it…

Instead of watercolor I have used alcohol inks.  I used a brick template from my favorite things.  I’ve had these alcohol inks for a few years and just haven’t used them yet.  Finally found my glossy paper and have been having a play.  The thing with alcohol inks is that you do have to just let go, you put the colors on the pads, add the blending solution, then just let it works it’s magic as you dab and brush and twirl the blending tool… The results are pretty cool.  The alcohol inks might leak under your stencil and you might not get the perfect lines, so you just go with it.  The first card I tried, I inked the whole front of the card, but that just seemed like too much, so I decided to just ink up part of the stencil.  It does look a bit messy on the edges, but that’s what it’s supposed to be and in the end I liked how it turned out.

stencils2_3Thanks for checking it out!!

Stencil class

Stencil logoI am taking the online stencil class, which started today.  Lots of fun ideas…

stencils1_1I used shadow inks for the bright colors – I used butter bar and soft apricot.  I basically used a lined stencil, then rotated the stencil 90 degrees to make this pattern.  I tried doing one of these with rainbow colors first, but just didn’t like the effect, so I thought I might prefer similar colors.  I much prefer the yellow and orange color!!  This is my rainbow attempt…

Not the best picture as I took it with my cell phone...

Anyway, back to my yellow card…  The stamp set is “Be Happy” from Hero Arts.  I put glossy accents on the flower, colored the little pearls with my orange copic marker to get the color I wanted and put wink of stella glitter on the bee.stencils1_2

I liked how Jennifer McGuire was tying the inside of her card to the outside, so I took a flower stamp from the same set and stamped it on the inside of the card.

On a side note, we were all hoping for snow here in Houston today (sorry to all those who have lots of snow and are just wishing for sunshine and warmth), but those of us living in Houston, don’t see snow very often, Jorja was so excited that we might get snow and get to play in it, but there was only lots and lots of ice… which made it fun when the kids wanted to climb the icy fence and play with their back neighbors…

I had to get a picture of the ice on the chairs and the icicles hanging off the chair back – that’s pretty novel for me!!frozen chair

Hope everyone is warm and well. Thanks for checking out my creation today!!

On a roll…

CASE60_1It’s been a while since I’ve sat down to look at some of the card challenges. My hubby and kids got me a few things from my wish list for christmas, so, I thought I’d better get into some sort of creative mode.  I looked at lots of the challenges and have found inspiration – this is my 4th post in 2 days – I really am on a roll…

Anyway, the inspiration for this card was from CAS(E) this sketch, plus it is my friends birthday tomorrow and I wanted to make her a few little note cards.    CTS_Sketch_60I thought the cute stamp set from Lawn Fawn called “into the woods” would go perfectly.  These are all 3 by 3 note cards.

CASE60_2CASE60_3CASE60_4I stamped a border from the lawn fawn #awesome set which works perfectly with the 3 by 3 card size.   I colored the border, fox and squirrel in with my copic markers, fussy cut them and popped them up with pop dots.  I also made some envelopes with the We R memory keepers Envelope Punch Board to go with them!!  Now I just need to make a little gift box for them to go in.  The crafting never ends…  it’s all good…

Thanks for checking it out…

Die Cuts

ATCAS29_2The challenge over at Addicted to CAS was to use Die cuts.  So I used my falling hearts die cut from Simon Says Stamps to cut out a stencil.  I then inked up the stencil using distress inks.  ATCAS29

I die cut my large heart, inked that in peacock feathers put a pop dot behind it and put some glossy accents on it.  I also selected a few of the little hearts at random and put some glossy accents on those as well – just gives it a little shine, but it was a little hard to capture in the photographs.ATCAS29_3

Thanks for looking….
